Symposium Teaches Pa. Companies How To Build Partnerships

Companies in Pennsylvania will learn to build partnerships and leverage technical, financial, and other resources of state and national governments and national trade at the "Industries of the Future -- Pennsylvania Symposium". The symposium will be held June 20-21, at the Harrisburg Marriott, Harrisburg, Pa. Industries of the Future (IOF) is a program of the U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE) Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT). It focuses on industry/government partnerships in nine fields, including steel, agriculture, aluminum, chemicals, forest products, glass, metal casting, mining, and petroleum refining. The OIT creates partnerships among industry, trade groups, government agencies, and other organizations to research, develop, and deliver advanced energy efficiency, renewable energy, and pollution-prevention technologies for industrial customers. "Other states are starting to get involved with [this] initiative and will soon be hosting their own symposiums that will help build alliances among industries, universities, and the government," notes Edward Fasiska, Ph.D. in material science and implementation manager for the Pennsylvania symposium. The June 20 sessions will benchmark six target industries and develop state industry strategies for the future. Breakout sessions will address industry-specific issues. The June 21 sessions will analyze the national and state industry visions, highlighting unique as well as symbiotic elements, explore how to break down barriers to progress and begin to develop action plans for each industry. The symposium is sponsored by the DOE OIT, the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection, and Concurrent Technologies Corp. in partnership with the Pennsylvania Dept. of Community and Economic Development and national industry associations.
