Technology Association Launches RFID Initiative

The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) has launched a new initiative to drive the adoption of radio frequency identification (RFID) in the computer, electronics and information technology industries. "With more than 19,000 members worldwide representing virtually every segment of the IT industry, CompTIA is uniquely positioned to help them minimize the challenges and maximize the benefits of RFID," says David Sommer, CompTIA vice president, e-commerce. "The breadth and diversity of our membership presents us with a broad mandate to develop business best practices tools, road maps, metrics and application software requirements that will ease their move to RFID." Issues CompTIA says it will address include: the impact of RFID on the computer/electronics/IT supply chain; interaction with adjacent supply chains, such as automotive, aerospace and government; and ongoing RFID education for resellers, solution providers and others. Based in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., CompTIA is a global trade association representing the interests of the IT industry.
