WARSAW: Japanese carmaker Toyota announced this week it plans to build a car-parts plant in western Poland, an investment worth US$87.5 million. The plant, which will make gearboxes, is to be built in the economic zone in Walbrzych, near the border with Germany and the Czech Republic, Toyota president Fujio Cho told reporters after a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek. It is the first major investment by a Japanese company in Poland and the first Toyota plant built in eastern Europe. Toyota is Japan's largest car manufacturer.
