Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. has announced the 50 winners of its new $440,000 Toyota International Teacher Program. The program, which was administered by the Institute of International Education, the largest nonprofit educational exchange program in the U.S., received more than 500 applications and was open to secondary school teachers in four states--California, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia--where Toyota has major manufacturing plants. Each high-school teacher was chosen for a 12-day, all-expense-paid educational and cultural trip to Japan that is designed to give them an in-depth look at the country. During the program, which will take place from June 18-30, the teachers will tour various factories and learn about the evolution of Japan's technology and industrial development. Additionally, they will visit schools, dine at homes of Japanese families, and visit various cultural and historical sites in Tokyo, Toyota City, Nagoya, and Kyoto, Japan's ancient capital.
