As part of its effort to alleviate the skilled-worker shortage, the Commerce Dept. has created a new Web site to assist companies in training information-technology employees. The site, go for IT!, profiles 171 IT worker-development programs at companies and organizations around the U.S.

"There are many innovative programs going on around the country to build a high-tech workforce, but people do not know about them," commented Commerce Secretary William M. Daley in announcing the site. "Now, everyone can find them in one place."

The site, at http://www.ta.doc.gov/go4it, was developed by the department's Technology Administration after a study last spring estimated a demand for 1.3 million new IT workers in the U.S. over the next decade.
