The telephone is no longer the primary means of communication in the workplace. Thirty-six percent of the human resource executives surveyed at the American Management Assn.s annual HR conference this month say email is their most frequently used communications tool. Only 26% report that the telephone is the most-used means of communication.

The online revolution has moved into recruiting as well. Seventy percent of those surveyed said that they have used the Internet for workforce recruiting, and half of them hired people in the last year through an Internet search. Some 61% think the Internet is particularly valuable for filling specialized positions.
