GM to Cut 190 Research Jobs in U.S., India

May 2, 2012
Says this will allow company to innovate faster

GM (IW 1000/13) will eliminate roughly 100 jobs at its technical center in Warren, Michigan, and 90 positions in Bangalore, India, the company said on May 1.

"We're restructuring our global R&D business to better focus on developing customer-focused innovations in a more efficient way," GM spokesman Dan Flores said.

"All these changes to R&D will hopefully allow the company to continue innovation but in a faster manner."

Most of the positions affected are staff scientists, Flores said, adding that workers will have the opportunity to apply for other jobs at GM.
