Kongsberg Automotive has Eliminated 2,000 Jobs in 2008

One third of company's sales comes from U.S.

Norwegian automotive equipment maker Kongsberg Automotive said on Dec. 9 that it had cut almost 2,000 jobs this year out of a total 11,000 jobs worldwide due to the crisis in the car sector.

"From January 1, 2008 up to December 1, 2008, the number of employees has been reduced from 11,493 to 9,539, in total 1,954," Kongsberg said in a statement.

"If the market will continue to decline, further cost reductions will be implemented," it added.

The company, which generates about a third of its sales in the U.S., has been negatively affected by the U.S. carmakers' woes.
