Samsung Heavy Industries Wins $900 Million Ship Order

South Korean manufacturer will build four LNG tankers for Nigeria’s Bonny Gas Transport.

SEOUL -- South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries (IW 1000/297) said Thursday it had won a $900 million order to build four gas container ships for Nigeria's Bonny Gas Transport.

Under the deal with the shipping unit of Nigeria LNG, Samsung will begin delivering the four liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers to the African nation in 2015, Samsung said in a statement.

Nigeria LNG is a joint venture of the state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. -- its biggest shareholder -- and other firms including Royal Dutch Shell (IW 1000/1) and French energy giant Total (IW 1000/9).

Samsung -- the world's second-largest shipyard -- has won orders worth $2.1 billion so far this year including the latest deal, after setting an annual target of $13 billion for the entire 2013.
