Plexus Online's on-demand Manufacturing Performance System improves end-to-end process at FAS Controls

Shelby, N.C.-based FAS Controls Inc. has developed a top-notch reputation over the years for producing custom-designed components with world-class quality at competitive prices -- such a good reputation, in fact, that it led private equity powerhouse Industrial Opportunity Partners to acquire it. However, as this manufacturer provides switches, actuating devices, sensors and control components to the automotive, heavy truck, recreational vehicle, off-road, engine, and durable goods markets, it needed an operations software upgrade to compete on this new level, and quickly.

"We needed a solution that afforded us the flexibility to suit our varied product lines and at the same time could be implemented quickly and at a competitive price. We also needed a solution that facilitates the high quality standards for our companies' products, whether it's a low-volume application or a very large scale production run. Plexus Online gives us that flexibility for our manufacturing operations and it helps us track and manage high quality standards," said FAS Controls President William Brown.

Plexus Online's manufacturing performance system (MPS) offered the appropriate functionality, and business advisory group Plante & Moran provided accelerated implementation assistance throughout the process from software training and guidance through the testing, cutover through to the go live date.

The Web-based MPS suite combines over 350 seperate functional modules, giving FAS the combined capabilities of enterprise resource planning (ERP), manufacturing execution systems (MES), quality management, customer relationship management (CRM), shop floor integration, and supply chain management (SCM) all on a single Web browser.

With the ability to manage a single facility or a global enterprise, the MPS suite utilizes lean principles to enable manufacturers to closely track and manage critical aspects of their operation, anywhere, anytime. Plexus Online consists of over 350 functional modules, allowing FAS instant access to vital information and management functions.

FAS Controls, Inc. operates a TS 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and Ford Q1-certified, 180,000 square foot manufacturing facility that is vertically integrated and designed for maximum efficiency. A majority of the metal forming, plastic molding and wire-winding are serviced in-house.
