Because they want the word to be a better place.

They are all members of the Sustainability Consortium which links companies, academics, governments and non-government organizations in an effort to create new products that are good for the environment.

Consortium activities include "developing transparent methodologies, tools and strategies to drive a new generation of products and supply networks that address environmental, social and economic imperatives."

New member Novozymes says it best. "We must produce more with less," explains Claus Stig Pedersen, head of sustainability at the company.

And you have to give it to this company, as it walks the talk. In 2009, Novozymes' products helped its customers reduce CO2 emissions by 27 million tons. The company plans to reduce global CO2 emissions by 75 million tons by 2015.
