Pfizer opens research center in Boston.

Adding to partnerships with academic medical institutions in California and New York City, Pfizer on July 8 announced that its network of translational research partnerships, called the Centers for Therapeutic Innovation, has launched in Boston with a number of local hospitals and universities.

Partners include Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston University School of Medicine, Children's Hospital Boston, Harvard University, Partners HealthCare, Tufts Medical Center, Tufts University, as well as the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester.

Boston will also serve as the world headquarters of its centers. Laboratory space will be located at the Center for Life Science in the Longwood Medical Area and Pfizer will develop the space inside the Center for Life Science Boston. Top-tier life science research institutions also surround this area.

"Our ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and the delivery of promising candidates to the pipeline," said Jose Carlos Gutierrez-Ramos, Ph.D, head of BioTherapeutics Research and Development for Pfizer.

Over the next five years Pfizer anticipates investing approximately $100 million in the Boston Centers for Therapeutic Innovation.
