Automaker is hiring employees to staff new tech center near Atlanta

General Motors (IW 500/4) will hire 1,000 high-tech workers to staff a new information technology center near Atlanta, the company announced Thursday.

The Atlanta center will be the third of four GM technology centers under a new initiative to have GM's technology led by company employees.

The company has already opened technology centers in Austin, Texas, and Warren, Mich. The location of the fourth site has not yet been announced.

"We look to the Innovation Centers to design and deliver IT that drives down the cost of ongoing operations," said GM chief information officer Randy Mott.
