Gross new orders of metal-cutting and metal-forming machine tools for U.S. consumption totaled $368.6 million in October, down 9.9% from Septembers $408.9 million, according to data jointly published this week by AMT -- The Association for Manufacturing Technology and the American Machine Tool Distributors' Association.
New orders for metal-cutting machine tools were $354.3 million in October, down 10% from $393.8 million in September. New Orders for metal-forming machine tools were $14.4 million in October, down 5.4% from $15.2 million in September.
For the first 10 months of 2006, new orders of machine tools for U.S. consumption totaled $3.2 billion, 27.9% more than the $2.5 billion worth of new orders recorded in the first 10 months of 2005.
