Oct. 29, 2013
"The proposed changes affect predominantly management and administrative functions at sites in Scunthorpe, Teesside and Workington and could lead to the loss of around 500 jobs," the company said in a statement.

LONDON -- India's Tata Steel (IW 1000/183) said today it intends to cut about 500 jobs across three sites in northern England amid falling European demand for the metal.

"The proposed changes affect predominantly management and administrative functions at sites in Scunthorpe, Teesside and Workington and could lead to the loss of around 500 jobs," the company said in a statement.

"The proposals come amid a prolonged downturn in demand, including the U.K. market for construction steel, which is about half of 2007 levels," the company added.
