Japanese car manufacturer Toyota (IW1000/5) announced Wednesday an increase in production at a Canadian assembly plant, citing optimism for the North American market.
The company's Woodstock, Ontario, assembly plant will boost production of the Toyota RAV4 sport utility vehicle from 150,000 to 200,000 vehicles, relying on an C$80 million investment that will result in 400 new jobs over the coming year, it said in a statement.
"We are optimistic that the market is coming back and we're grateful for the strong sales of the RAV4 in the North American market, which has created this increase in production and jobs," Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada president Brian Krinock said.
Toyota manufactures its Corolla, Matrix and RAV4 vehicles, as well as the Lexus RX 350 at plants in Cambridge, Ontario, and the plant in Woodstock. The company employs approximately 6,500 people in Canada.
