Datamonitor poll shows email is workplace communication tool of choice

A recent poll has shown that today's workers prefer to use email to communicate, rather than speaking to each other on the telephone.

The Datamonitor study found that 100% of the end user respondents use email, followed by fixed-line telephony (80%), mobile telephony (76%) and instant messaging (66%).

Over 70% of the end users surveyed said that email has a positive impact on their productivity, followed by conventional fixed-line telephony (53%) and mobile telephony (52%).

The research also shows that new tools, such as blogs and instant messaging, are considered to be the most disruptive and can have a negative impact on productivity if not managed properly.
