Honeywell Systems Boost Plant Productivity

Experion software will improve Abu Dhabi plant's efficiency.

Honeywell announced that it was selected by Samsung Engineering Co., Ltd. to deliver an integrated process control system for FERTIL-2, a new fertilizer plant being built near Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Honeywell's Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS) and Safety Manager will be used to fully automate the facility and increase output for ammonia and urea used in fertilizer production by up to 50%.

Samsung Engineering is engaged by Ruwais Fertilizer Industries (FERTIL), a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, to develop the new fertilizer plant.

Honeywell's Experion PKS will help FERTIL-2 to produce ammonia and urea in capacities of up to 2,000 and 3,500 metric tons per day respectively, with production slated to begin in January 2013. In addition, with the implementation of Safety Manager, Experion will improve FERTIL-2's process-safeguarding protocols such as emergency shutdowns, fire and gas monitoring, and critical application control.

FERTIL's existing plant also uses Honeywell technology.
