In an effort to find out which processes were causing the most downtime at its plants in Smyrna, Tenn. and Canton, Miss., Nissan will be implementing GE Fanuc Automation's Proficy Plant Applications product.

Proficy Plant Applications digitizes the collective information being generated throughout production facilities into a "virtual plant" that can be accessed where, when and how it is needed. The program has a core set of scalable modules focused on a variety of production aspects -- efficiency, quality, production and batch analysis.

During a pilot of this application at Smyrna Paint Operation, GE Fanuc and Nissan demonstrated Proficy Plant Applications' deployment capability with a three-day "start to live" production system that yielded results such as: configurability, ability to clone configurations, variable data in the context of events, statistical analysis to determine "normal" and set limits, ready-to-use web reports with drill down, the ability to use Excel for additional analysis and reporting. The solution also uses automatic detection to interpret downtime reasons.
