Both manufacturing and IT managers will be using quality as a key determining factor in choosing plant IT initiatives in the next 2 years, according to a recent AMR Research study.

The study pointed out that visibility into the details of product manufacturing was lacking.

Additionally companies reported that they need to be able to coordinate strategies both enterprise-wide as well as geographically. When looking to measure their effectiveness, companies are discovering that they lack common metrics to link product and part defects to the processes and people responsible for manufacturing.

The solution to these problems, according to AMR Research, is that manufacturing quality must be shaped into a set of standardized metrics and applied across all plants.
