The answer seems to be yes, according a study by Boston -based Aberdeen's report, "Product Innovation Agenda Benchmark." Best-in-class manufacturers that have organizational structures designed to promote product innovation are four times more likely to employ PLM-related software.

"Manufacturers are achieving operational improvements that yield significant bottom line results," said Jim Brown, vice president of product innovation and engineering research and author of the report. "But companies are still confused regarding which of a wide selection of possible PLM improvements will best help them profit from innovation."

The survey concludes that companies investing in product innovation achieve a 19% increase in product revenues, a 15% decrease in product cost and a 16% reduction in product development costs.
