National Association of Manufacturers Names New CMA Chief

Jan. 22, 2015
Thomas Gibson has been a CMA member for more than five years, serving as a vice chair for the past year.

Washington, D.C. – The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) announced Thomas Gibson, president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), has been elected chair of the NAM’s Council of Manufacturing Associations (CMA) to serve a one-year term.

The CMA, made up of nearly 250 industry-specific manufacturing associations, is a vital component of the NAM, providing resources and networks to members to broaden the reach of the NAM’s advocacy efforts.

“Tom has been a champion for manufacturers throughout his career,” said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons.

“He has been on the frontlines advocating policies that strengthen manufacturing in the United States.

He has worked tirelessly to influence and navigate the complex world of Washington policymaking.

We are thrilled to welcome Tom’s leadership to the CMA and look forward to working with him to advance pro-growth policies.”

Gibson has been a CMA member for more than five years, serving as a vice chair for the past year.

He has chaired, co-chaired or founded numerous industry coalitions.

Prior to joining AISI, Gibson served as senior vice president of advocacy for the American Chemistry Council and also as chief of staff for the Environmental Protection Agency.

“This year is going to be critical for the manufacturing sector,” said Gibson. “I am looking forward to working with Jay to continue to strengthen the CMA and to bring our collective resources to bear on the critical issues before Congress and the Administration.”

Heidi Brock, president and CEO of the Aluminum Association, was elected vice chair, and Marty Durbin, president and CEO of America’s Natural Gas Alliance, was elected second vice chair.

Three new members were added to the CMA Board of Directors: Matt Croson, president of the Adhesive and Sealant Council; Ann Arnott, executive vice president of the Power Transmission Distributors Association; and Chris Jahn, president of The Fertilizer Institute.
