Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) said on Feb. 25 it had won two network deals worth a total of around 880 million euros (US$1.1 billion) in China.
China's leading telecom operators China Mobile and China Unicom had ordered mobile network equipment and services from NSN, it said.
The deals came within the framework of a 10-billion-euro package negotiated by a delegation of more than 200 Chinese companies currently visiting Germany.
For China Unicom, NSN said it would deliver networks based on third generation "wideband code division multiple access" (WCDMA) technology to 11 provinces across the country. China Mobile had meanwhile ordered networks using second generation GSM technology and China's own third generation standard TD-SCDMA technologies.
"With the country gearing up for the launch of 3G services, we are once again in a competitive position to leverage our experience... and roll-out services to support the plans of Chinese operators," said Zhang Zhiqiang, the head of NSN's Greater China Region division.
The Finnish-German company, which counts six research and development sites in China, is actively trying to expand its market share in the country.
