Samsung Electronics said on Feb. 5 it would invest 100 million euros (US$136 million) in its plant in Galanta, western Slovakia in the years to come.

"We plan to boost the production of LED TV screens and start producing 3D TV screens in 2010," the company said.

By the end of October 2010 Samsung will add 200 new jobs to the current 3,000 and retrain some 700 employees for the new production, it added.

Since launching production in 2002, the plant has produced more than 40 million LCD and LED TV screens, laser printers, DVD players and computer screens.

The South Korean company also runs a plant in Voderady, western Slovakia.

Electronics production is one of the engines of the country, which joined the eurozone last year.
