Announcement comes one week after Apple unveiled its 3G iPhone

Samsung on June 16 unveiled its latest smart phone, a touch-screen model to be commercially launched in Southeast Asia this week. The Omnia, which means "everything" in Latin, comes with a five megapixel built-in camera, 3.2-inch (eight-centimeter) screen as well as video functions, the company said.

With its touch-sensitive screen, drag and drop operation and an on-screen Qwerty keyboard, the Omnia also comes with GPS for navigation, Microsoft Office document viewer and Microsoft Windows Mobile professional software, Samsung said.

"The Omnia mobile range will help users to be at the forefront of work and play and at the same time, to stay connected anytime, anywhere," Geesung Choi, president of Samsung Telecommunications said.

Samsung launched its Omnia one week after Apple unveiled its touch-screen-activated 3G iPhone built for high-speed wireless networks, with faster Internet access and more features for business users than its previous iPhone.
