Tulsa, Okla.-based MESA Products Inc., a $25 million manufacturer that designs, makes and installs cathodic protection systems to control the corrosion of metal surfaces, is one of three 2006 recipients of the U.S. Commerce Department's Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

MESA was selected as the small business winner. San Diego-based Premier Inc. was the award recipient among service providers, and North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss., was award winner in the health care category.

Named for Malcolm Baldrige, who served as Secretary of Commerce in the Reagan Administration, the award was originally established by Congress to enhance the competitiveness and performance of U.S. business. Eligibility for the award was expanded to education and health care in 1998. In 2007, non-profit organizations, including charities, trade and professional associations, and government agencies, also will become eligible.

The three 2006 winners were selected from 76 applicants.
