Blue Coat Systems, Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif. recently announced that Hyundai Engineering has selected Blue Coat ProxySG appliances to accelerate the delivery of applications and content across its Wide Area Network (WAN) between the company's headquarters and overseas construction offices.
A growing portion of Hyundai Engineering's new business comes from the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, where network infrastructure is less robust and performance is a particular issue. Initially, Hyundai Engineering considered replacing the local network service provider with satellite or international line services, but found it cost prohibitive. The company then discovered that a comprehensive WAN optimization solution would solve the performance issue effectively at a relatively low cost.
"Our business demanded a solution that would provide fast, efficient exchange of engineering blue prints and design drawings between any one of our locations," said Ha Young-Dae, manager of Hyundai Engineering. "Blue Coat ProxySG appliances have enabled us to be more responsive to customers and to increase our employee productivity by up to 50%."
Before Hyundai Engineering deployed Blue Coat ProxySG appliances it was a time-consuming process to access blueprints or design drawings in branch offices or save them in headquarters. Efficient access to blue prints or design drawings is essential to the company's ability to make accurate, expeditious decisions. By deploying ProxySG appliances, Hyundai Engineering has improved business-critical application and file access times by 50x. More efficient utilization of its ERP system, CAD drawings and data management system has also resulted in lower WAN bandwidth utilization and operational costs.
