Toyota Overtakes Ford in October U.S. Sales

Ford sales fell 9.5%

Toyota Motor overtook Ford Motor Co. in its home market on Nov. 1 after reporting record October U.S. sales the day after celebrating its 50th anniversary in the United States.

Toyota reported its best ever sales of 197,592 vehicles in October as Ford's sales fell 9.5% to 195,462 vehicles.

Ford nonetheless maintains the lead in year-to-date sales of 2.5 million vehicles compared with nearly 2.2 million vehicles at Toyota.

Toyota reported solid growth in most areas, with best ever sales reported in both the Toyota division, up 0.5% to 172,473, and the luxury Lexus division, up 0.6% at 25,119 vehicles.

Hybrid sales continue to be brisk, with monthly sales up 25% to 18,903 and year to date sales up 42% at 227,090.
