Solectron Creates Alliance To Create Expanded Outsourcing System

Alliance covers contract global manufacturing, product design and supply chain functions.

Solectron Corp, announced Feb. 7 the formation of the Solectron Medical Alliance Program (S-MAP). S-MAP initially includes ATEK Medical, Circle Medical, Proven Process Medical Devices, Inc. and SRI Product Development. Solectron, based in Milpitas, Calif., is a provider of electronics manufacturing and integrated supply chain services.

"Medical device firms are facing mounting pressure to generate more revenue with more products at lower costs while meeting high quality requirements. The Solectron Medical Alliance Program is a powerful new approach to solving many of these business challenges," said Dave Busch, vice president, medical segment, Solectron. "S-MAP offers a single point of contact to a best-in-class global team supporting complete product life cycle needs for medical device firms."

ATEK Medical Manufacturing, based in Grand Rapids, Mich. provides disposable device capabilities for medical device OEMs. Circle Medical of Los Gatos, Calif. offers digital and analog engineering, software engineering, mechanical engineering and industrial design. Proven Process, of East Walpole, Mass., offers product concept definition and innovation, medical device design, development and verification, prototype and assembly and project management. And SRI Product Development, based in Plano, Texas, features a multi-disciplinary engineering team with capabilities in software, electronic, mechanical, industrial and user interface design to produce electromechanical/software driven products.

The alliance creates a comprehensive medical device outsourcing ecosystem encompassing product design and engineering, manufacturing, assembly and aftermarket services and support according to a company statement. All members of the alliance operate medically-certified (ISO 13485:2003) facilities and are compliant with the FDA's Quality System Regulation.
