Volkswagen announced on Feb. 11 a recall of more than 193,000 vehicles in Brazil for malfunctions in the rear wheels of its Novo Gol and Voyage models.

The company said it had determined the component had not been sufficiently lubricated, which could cause the rear wheels to seize up or even fall off.

"The use of the vehicle in these conditions can cause noise and its continuous use could lead to a blockage of the wheels. In extreme cases, the wheel can come off," Volkswagen Brazil said.

The recall affected 193,600 Novo Gol and Voyage vehicles built in Brazil before July 2009.
