Ford Recalls Ka Models in Brazil Over Fire Risk

May 21, 2010
The recall affected Ka cars made since 2008.

Ford said on May 21 issued a recall of Ka models sold in Brazil because of an electrical defect that posed a fire risk.

The recall affected Ka cars made since 2008, Ford said. That amounted to 155,000 vehicles, according to the National Automobile Dealership Federation.

There was a "possibility" of the electrical system coming into contact with the chassis.

The could result in "constant shorting of fuses, inoperability of the vehicle's safety components such as the headlights, turn indicators and windscreen wipers and, in extreme cases, a short circuit and the start of a fire in the engine compartment," Ford said.
