Daimler Says Truck Business Faring Well Despite Crisis
Daimler (IW 1000/18), one of the world's leading maker of trucks, said Tuesday its commercial vehicles business is managing to defy the current crisis.
Andreas Renschler, head of the group's heavy trucks division Daimler Trucks, told journalists on the sidelines of the IAA Commercial Vehicles show that worldwide truck deliveries were up 20% in the period from January to August.
"The overall outlook is solid," Renschler said.
"While sales markets in Europe are being impacted by the difficult economic situation in the Southern European nations, the truck markets in North America and Japan are developing in an extremely positive manner," he said.
Renschler said he was satisfied with the market-share development for all Daimler commercial vehicles over the first eight months of the year.
"Whether you're talking about trucks, buses or vans, we've been able to expand our position in many markets since the beginning of the year," he said.
