Sun Offers Free Green Benchmarking Tools

New online portal to help manufacturers increase efficiency and decrease greenhouse gas emissions, without increasing your consultant and software budget
Oct. 3, 2007

Sun Microsystems recently launched a free online service designed to help companies benchmark their environmental and carbon emissions-tracking practices. Called OpenEco.org, the commmunity is designed to decrease the time and cost required to measure and manage an organization's carbon footprint by providing the ability to calculate greenhouse gases related to a single facility (or group of facilities), based on standard, approved carbon accounting practices used by organizations such as the World Resources Institute and Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

Companies can choose to benchmark either anonymously or "on the record," and use advanced charting and reporting tools to facilitate submissions to regulating organizations (such as the EPA Climate Leaders program).
