Check out our list below to see what manufacturing facility announcements captured our attention in the month of May.
Emirates Global Aluminium
Emirates Global Aluminium has selected Oklahoma as the preferred site for a $4 billion investment to build a new primary aluminum production plant, the first of its kind built in the U.S. since 1980. The facility will be located on over 350 acres and will produce billets, sheet ingots, high-purity aluminum and foundry alloys. The plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of 600,000 metric tons of primary aluminum, and the project is slated to create 1,000 direct jobs.
Mitsubishi Logisnext Americas
After investing nearly $20 million, Mitsubishi Logisnext Americas has completed an expansion of its Houston manufacturing campus. To meet growing demand for its Electric Class I and Class II products, the company has added a 73,500 square-foot electrification fabrication facility to increase capacity, streamline operations and lower production costs.
Archer
Meat snack brand Archer has announced plans to open its second Los Angeles manufacturing plant. The 140,000 square-foot facility will primarily produce the company’s lineup of meat sticks to meet growing demand. The expansion is expected to add over 200 jobs and be fully operational by September.
“The explosive growth of our meat stick products made increasing our production capabilities essential,” says Archer Founder and CEO Eugene Kang. “This expansion represents our next strategic step to vertically integrate our fastest growing product line.”
Genentech
Biotechnology company Genentech announced plans to build its first East Coast manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina. With an initial investment of over $700 million, the 700,000 square-foot facility is expected to add over 400 high-wage manufacturing jobs and support the company’s future portfolio of obesity medicines.
General Motors
To support the production of the company’s sixth generation V-8 engines, General Motors (GM) has announced plans to invest $888 million in its Tonawanda Propulsion plant, the largest single investment GM has ever made in an engine plant.
“GM's Buffalo plant has been in operation for 87 years and is continuing to innovate the engines we build there to make them more fuel efficient and higher performing, which will help us deliver world-class trucks and SUVs to our customers for years to come,” says GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra.
The Tonawanda plant will be the second propulsion plant to make this new generation of engines, and production is expected to start in 2027.
