New Tool in the Works for Design Engineering Community

June 11, 2008
Partnership will develop searchable composites materials database

Simulation software provider Firehole Technologies and IDES, a plastic materials information management company, announced that they have entered into a strategic partnership to develop a searchable composite materials database.

The partnership makes sense. Firehole Technologies supplies computer-aided software and services for composites materials, while IDES is home to The Plastics Web, a Web site with a vertical search engine with plastics content and technical data sheets from 600 global resin manufacturers.

"There is a significant need among the engineering design community to be able to quickly locate candidate composite materials, compare them to similar materials, and access reliable material data for those materials" says Jerad Stack, CEO of Firehole Technologies. "We approached IDES because they are the industry leader in managing complex materials data."

The companies say the tool will offer engineering specific search functionality for a wide array of composite materials.

For IDES, this announcement follows closely on the heels of its May launch of The Plastics Marketplace. The marketplace is a listing of more than 5 million pounds of spot market resins for purchase from quality, reputable suppliers, IDES says.

At The Plastics Marketplace, resin buyers can view plastics from virgin prime with certifications to scrap. Information provided for the materials include listing date, generic family, product name and description, forms, packaging, color, weight, pricing and geographic location.
