Ansys has launched the latest release of Simplorer software, used to design mechatronic and other multidomain systems for industries as diverse as automotive, industrial automation and aerospace. A new user interface for Simplorer 8.0 allows engineers to use multiple modeling techniques and modeling languages concurrently and within the same schematic. Other enhancements include co-simulation links to complementary simulation software and improved computational performance.

Dassault Systemes' Simulia brand has announced a new product for engineers who are trying to evaluate the performance of welded joints in such applications as pressure valves, storage tanks and piping. Verity for Abaqus, an add-on product to Abaqus FEA (finite element analysis) software, simulates realistic structural stress in welded joints as well as structures with adhesive joints and mechanically fastened joints. Using technology from research organization Battelle, the add-on provides a mesh-insensitive solution.

Online resource provider Knovel has launched its Industrial Engineering and Operations Management Collection. This online collection supports engineering professionals with best practices content on project management and product lifecycle management, and features titles from such publishers as Elsevier, Industrial Press and McGraw-Hill on topics including human engineering and ergonomics, industrial engineering, Six Sigma and quality management. Titles will be added to the collection throughout the year and are expected to number 120 by the end of 2009.

A Web-based product lifecycle management solution has been introduced by think3. Called TD PLM, the suite is modular, flexible and based on an independent Web platform.
