At the RFID World Conference, held in Dallas on Feb. 26, IBM announced it is expanding its RFID services for asset tracking. The RFID Solution for Asset Tracking helps in the areas of security and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
Additionally, for companies with heavy tagging traffic, IBM also upgraded its WebSphere Premises Server. The upgrade, Version 1.1, which enables tagging items at manufacturing line speeds, provides remote deployment, a distributed architecture as well as central management.
If a manufacturer chooses to run Version 1.1 in a service-oriented architecture (SOA), the information generated from the RFID chips on inventory, shipping and billing can be instantaneously distributed across a its IT infrastructure as well as externally with partners or suppliers.
Separately, IBM announced the opening of a 50,000 square foot RFID testing and pilot center in Dublin, Ireland. Dublin now complements a network of 10 IBM RFID centers worldwide where companies can get hands-on experience with product tagging, supply chain integration, logistics management and asset tracking before going into production.
