Patent infringement claims bedevil manufacturers, survey finds.

It's a big, bad litigious world out there for U.S. and UK manufacturers, according to the latest litigation trends survey results issued by law firm Fulbright & Jaworski. Slightly more than half (54%) of U.S. manufacturers faced six or more new lawsuits in the past year, behind only insurance companies and retailers as a top target. Claims related to intellectual property disputes abounded among manufacturers. According to the data:

52 percentage of U.S. manufacturers that had at least one patent infringement claim filed against them in the past three years

51 percentage of manufacturers that asserted at least one patent infringement claim in the past three years

71 percentage of manufacturers that have had at least one patent infringement claim result in litigation in the past three years

13 percentage of manufacturers that expect an increase in the number of patent infringement claims filed against them

8 percentage of manufacturers that expect an increase in the number of patent infringement claims they assert
