"What's the matter with kids today?" has been a popular lament for many years, and certainly the millennial generation has come under fire from older generations that question their desire to enter fields like industrial manufacturing that lack the perceived glamor of higher-profile occupations. The "talent gap" is frequently cited as one of the manufacturing industry's biggest challenges going forward.
It's reassuring, then, to hear about so many young people who not only have chosen to work in manufacturing and supply chain roles, but who are bringing real value to their companies at the very dawn of their careers. The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) recently teamed up with ThomasNet to profile what it calls "rising supply chain stars," including one young woman it has deemed a "megastar": Shell Oil's Katy Maynor.
