Honda's announcement comes a week after it said it would launch a huge ad campaign urging owners to bring their vehicles in to be repaired.

Honda (IW 1000/29) is recalling more than 100,000 additional vehicles in the U.S. tied to existing airbag issues from maker Takata Corp. The company says the newest recall comes after it identified more models made in America equipped with the faulty safety device.

The latest recall involving the airbag problem covers 104,871 vehicles, according to the filing with the National Transportation Safety Board. It affects 2oo8 Pilot SUVs, 2001 Accords and 2004 Civic sedans.

Honda's announcement comes a week after it said it would launch a huge ad campaign urging owners to bring their vehicles in to be repaired. The ad blitz is running the carmaker millions of dollars, "The goals of this campaign are to save lives and prevent injuries," said John Mendel, executive vice president of the Automobile Division of American Honda.

Airbags manufactured by Takata can deploy with excessive force, potentially shooting shrapnel at passengers. The problem has been linked to at least five deaths. More than 20 million vehicles from at least 10 companies have been recalled because of the danger.
