Manufacturing Layoffs Rise In April In U.S.

The U.S. Labor Department recorded 395 "mass layoffs" in the manufacturing sector of the U.S. economy during April, up from 246 in March.

The number of workers affected also rose: 59,129 in April, up from 33,030 in March.

The department defines a mass layoff as a dismissal that affects at least 50 workers in a single establishment.
