On March 28, the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), announced the debut of CompTIA RFID+, a professional certification of skills in RFID technology that addresses the needs of RFID hardware and software manufacturers, value added resellers, training developers and end-users of the technology. The vendor neutral certification was developed with the contributions of more than 20 organizations with leadership positions in the global RFID industry.

A recent CompTIA survey found that more than 50% of the approximately 500 respondents said that they either have completed, or plan to complete, RFID implementation over the next twelve months. The most aggressive adoption of RFID is planned in the automotive industry, where 59% of companies surveyed said they will deploy the technology over the next 12 months; followed by the consumer goods industry and the transportation and logistics sectors, at 58% each.

The problem many businesses face is the lack of skilled labor in the area of RFID. In fact, 75% of technology companies surveyed said that they do not believe there is a sufficient pool of talent expertise in RFID technology from which to hire, with 80% reporting this shortage will impact adoption of the technology.
