Home of Steve Jobs Burglarized

A Californian has been arrested and charged with stealing $60,000 worth of computers and other items from a home belonging to the late Apple Inc. (IW 1000/28) co-founder Steve Jobs, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Kariem McFarlin, 35, could face a maximum sentence of seven years and eight months if convicted on charges of burglary and selling stolen property, according to supervising deputy district attorney Scott Tsui.

"The evidence seems to show this was a random act," Tsui told AFP.

"I imagine after he got in or at some other point he figured out it wasn't just anybody's house."

Prosecutors did not disclose exactly what was stolen from Jobs's Palo Alto, Calif., home during the robbery on July 17, nor did they reveal whether the property belonged to Jobs or someone else in his family.

The home is undergoing renovation and no one appeared to be living there at the time of the theft, prosecutors said.

Jobs died late last year from cancer at the age of 56, a premature end for a visionary who revolutionized modern culture and changed forever the world's relationship to technology through inventions such as the iPad and iPhone.
