Taiwan's inflation rate rose sharply in June on the back of higher food and fuel prices, the government said Tuesday. The consumer price index (CPI) in June was up 2.39% year-on-year and 0.05% month-on-month after an increase of 2.32% and 0.21% in May, the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics said.
The June core price index, which excludes prices of fresh vegetables/fruit, fishery products and energy, was up 0.47 % from a year earlier but down 0.07% from May. These figures compare with May's year-on-year rise of 0.56% and a 0.05% month-on-month decline.
The June wholesale price index fell 1.04% year-on-year but was up a seasonally adjusted 0.02% month-on-month.
For the six months to June, overall CPI rose 1.84% from a year earlier.
