Task force meets with cabinet members Paulson, Gutierrez and Schwab

The Washington, D.C.-based National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) continues to press the Bush Administration on the value of the Chinese currency and other trade-related issues. On Dec. 4, the NAM's U.S.-China Business Relations Task Force met with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez and U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab.

"The talks today were open and frank, allowing for a wide-ranging discussion of key issues such as subsidies, intellectual property, export promotion and most importantly, currency," said Mike Campbell, president and CEO of Arch Chemicals and chairman of the task force, following the meeting.

"Our board-level task force delivered a clear message: We need to see progress from China on these issues and we need to see it soon," said NAM President John Engler.

The NAM has been pressuring the Bush Administration to deal with what it claims are China's undervalued currency and insufficient enforcement of intellectual property protection for three years.
