The Greek economy expanded 4% in fourth quarter 2004 compared with the same period of 2003, the national statistics institute reported Monday, citing provisional figures. Greek gross domestic product expanded 3.8% in the third quarter last year after 3.9% in the second and four percent in the first.

The institute said consumer spending rose 3.4% in the final three months of the year compared with the same period of 2003.

Investment rose 4.2%. Imports gained 5.3% while exports went up 3.1% compared with fourth quarter 2004.
