Facility will provide manufacturing and sales space plus room to grow.

Marshall, Mich.-based BorgWarner Thermal Systems, part of the BorgWarner Engine Group, recently opened a new manufacturing facility near Chennai, India.

The 65,000-square-foot facility is located in a high-tech business park. The building will provide manufacturing, engineering, sales and administrative space as well as room for future expansion, according to the company.

BorgWarner Thermal Systems in India produces viscous fans and fan drives for customers such as Tata Motors, Tata Cummins, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra & Mahindra, and others.

In India, growing demand for mobility and adoption of global emissions standards is driving growth for BorgWarners advanced technologies, said Dan CasaSanta, president and general manager, BorgWarner Thermal Systems. With our new facility, BorgWarner will have the ability to expand existing product lines and introduce new technologies and products.

The facility is seeking silver certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, a set of standards for environmentally sustainable construction developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Over 30% of the grounds around the new facility are reserved for green space and shaded with trees and plants watered with recycled wastewater. In addition, several water- and energy-saving devices have been installed throughout the building, according to the company.
