In 2005, the three North American nations -- the U.S., Canada and Mexico -- made 41 new investments in the European country of Switzerland and expanded 19 other projects. The total of 60 projects was the highest since 2000, says Location: Switzerland, the country's foreign investment agency.

"By all accounts this represents the best year going back to the year 2000, before the collapse of the U.S. financial markets and the bursting of the IT bubble," says Mario Brossi, agency's senior representative for North America.

As a point of comparison, the three North American nations collectively made 18 new investments in Switzerland in 2004 and expanded 10 existing projects.
