Reader Feeback: What Happened To Old Jobs?

Sept. 16, 2010
Until big business and our federal government wake up and level the playing field, nothing we do will bring our jobs back where they were.

I just read your June article
("Help for Manufacturing Startups," June 2010)
again. While I enjoyed the article, I still am left very puzzled about how our state and federal governments are helping create jobs. I think it is good to help startup companies to get going but what about helping the small businesses that are already in place and struggling.
One would think that before we try to create new jobs, we would take a look at what happened to our old ones. While some jobs went away because we are getting better at producing things faster due to technological advancements, the bulk of our jobs are being outsourced to other countries. Until big business and our federal government wake up and level the playing field, nothing we do will bring our jobs back where they were. The solution is so simple but nobody seems to get it.
