As Australia heads into the southern hemisphere's winter, its economy is likely to continue the moderate growth of the past year, indicates the Conference Board, a New York-based business research group.

The group's index of leading economic indicators for Australia advanced six-tenths of a percentage point in March, the most recent month for which data are available. The index now stands at 161.5 (1990=100). The index increased two-tenths of a point in January and one-tenth of a point in February. Its growth rate has accelerated to an annual rate of 3% to 4% in recent months.
